Improve Your SEO Marketing Strategy Today
With regular updates in Google’s algorithm it is important to keep your SEO marketing strategy up to date. Here are five ways to improve your SEO marketing strategy this year.
1. Include Interactive Content
Content such as polls, quizzes and surveys all help to increase visitor engagement and keep people on your website for longer.
Don’t forget to include attractive visual features such as different colour schemes and photos. Sites like Pixabay provide great free stock images.
By keeping visitors on your website for longer (reducing your bounce rate) you are signalling to Google that your website provides valuable content and is a trusted resource.
2. Write Lengthy Content
It has always bee the case that high quality content is the most important factor in SEO. Therefore high quality, engaging content forms a vital part of any successful SEO marketing strategy. In fact, a Backlinko analysis of 1 million Google search results revealed that the average Google first page result contains a whopping 1,890 words.
So if your website landing page contains less than 1000 words it is well worth adding more content.
But don’t think you have to add hundreds or thousands more words to your website all at once. Google loves fresh content, so if you are adding content regularly you should be fine. By the same token, no web page should contain less than 500 words.
Adding content also allows you to dig deeper into different topics. More importantly, Google rewards websites that provide informative content – so start writing!
Longer content also provides you with the opportunity to include more of the keywords you want to target.
It also helps by making more LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords available.
LSI keywords are secondary, or supporting, keywords you would expect to find with your primary keywords. This helps Google determine what your content is about. If these typical LSI keywords are missing Google will question the relevance of your content.
3. Write More Engaging Headlines
The importance of a compelling headline is often ignored because people either find it too difficult, or are more focused on including a particular keyword.
However it’s important to remember that first impressions count. The attractiveness of your headline determines the Click Through Rate. A low CTR means less visitors and makes it difficult to improve your Google ranking.
So how can you write a better headline? I recently came across a headline analyser tool on the CoSchedule website that helps you do exactly that.
Simply type your headline and it will analyse your structure and grammar; headline length; keywords, social media shareability and more.
When crafting a headline it’s also important to remember that the point of your content is to inform and educate people, so ensure your headline reflects that. The use of words such as ‘discover’, ‘uncover’, and ‘find’ are very helpful in doing this.
Using lists is another way to create interest in your content.
4. Ensure Your Website Is Mobile Ready
A 2016 study by SearchEngineLand revealed that nearly 60% of Google searches occur on mobile devices. You can imagine how much that has increased in the past two years. So mobile compatibility is absolutely vital for the success of your website.
Page load times and ease of navigation are also important factors in creating a user friendly experience that will also be rewarded by Google.
Fortunately, many web platforms such as WordPress and Squarespace automatically optimise your website for mobile devices.
And remember, if you are writing your content on a desktop or laptop computer it will look a lot different when viewed on a mobile device. Therefore it’s important to keep checking the mobile appearance of your content before you publish the final version.
5. Encourage Engagement
As mentioned earlier, polls and surveys are a great way to get visitors to interact with your website and keep them there for longer. But this is a lot different than engaging with your content. Google rewards websites that create a sense of community.
Encourage engagement by inviting readers to leave feedback. Asking open ended questions result in longer comments than simple yes or no questions.
Longer comments are also more likely to lead to a discussion. Joining the conversation is a great way to engage directly with visitors to your website and gain valuable feedback.
These are five simple ways to improve your SEO marketing strategy this year. All of these methods will help bring more visitors to your website and keep them there for longer.
